Hi y'all, I've been wanting to talk about some stuff going on in my life but haven't had a chance until now.
In 2017, my mother, who I was very close to, discovered she had Stage 4 breast cancer. This was caused by a genetic mutation called BRCA2. At the same time, I also found out that I have the same mutation.
The cancer had metastasized, but we got three and a half more years with her. In June of this year, she passed away, leaving behind me, my devastated father, and her beloved cats.
In September, I got a prophylactic masectomy, which reduced the breast cancer risk over my lifetime from 70% to 3%. I still have a higher than usual chance of ovarian cancer, so I'll need to take care of that soon too, plus a higher risk of skin cancer.
My dad has done a lot of research over the years into genetically linked cancers. He discovered FORCE last year, which is an organization that educates people about genetic cancer risks.
I've decided that instead of a donation link for myself, Id like to share a link to my fundraiser for FORCE. If you like my work, consider donating to them in my honor.
Take care of yourselves this holiday season by getting vaccinated and learning about your family cancer history.
Thank you for all your love and support! ❤
