Sims 2 SEPARATE Pet Eye Defaults
Separate Pet Eye Defaults
While digging in the material definitions the other day for my werewolf defaults, I happened to find where Maxis was hiding the ones for pet eyes. Since there were separate matdefs for pet eyes and fur, I figured I could just rename the texture files and reroute the matdefs to point to them. Sure enough, it worked!!
What this means is that you can now have whatever fur defaults you want, without worrying about them default replacing your eyes! You can mix and match whatever sets you want! The only caveat is that pets already created in game will still keep the eyes from the fur textures they have. I'm not sure how to fix that yet. New pets will have the eye defaults from whatever eye default set you have though! I haven't noticed any other issues with this mod in testing, but let me know if you run into anything.
For creators: Please feel free to create your own pet eye default packages from the ones I've created. The material definitions are included in the files with the textures, so as long as you don't delete any of them, you'll be good to go! Switch out the textures the way you would for any other default replacement. Just note that you might want to separate out the eyes from the fur on whatever images you have so the background is transparent (see my files with the Remi defaults for an example). This might help keep your file size down a lot!

Update 10/16/2020:
Nopke noticed that their mod conflicted with these, so they kindly fixed the Maxis pet separates and let me use the fix in the Remi separates. Download here:
